Description
In this one-day workshop you will create visual poetry and experimental typography using Il–Verse, Heikki Lotvonen’s new tool for writing spatially in two dimensions. Guided by Heikki, you will explore the expressive possibilities of letterforms and language freed from the constraints of the line, composing visual texts that blur the boundary between image and word. Your work will be printed as a A5 collective zine using the Risograph, which everyone gets to take away at the end of the workshop.
No prior experience with poetry, text art or typography is required.
The workshop is open to anyone curious about language, image-making, and the edges between them. Requirements: participants are expected to bring their own laptops with an up-to-date Firefox or Chrome browser.
The workshop takes place from 10.00-16.00 on Saturday 18th April. The participation fee is 95€. Students and unemployed can get the reduced rate of 80€ by using the discount code: Batwings
Refreshments served, but please bring your own lunch.
Heikki Lotvonen is a Helsinki based artist, graphic designer, and toolmaker interested in pushing the boundaries of text-based art and design. Lotvonen’s practice is centered around developing experimental design tools that are based on forgotten and unconventional design methods, which he integrates into his work as a graphic designer, and into his teaching (incl. Aalto University, KADK). Currently, Lotvonen is doing a one-year residency furthering his artistic practice as tool-maker at the Centre for Text Margins.
